A fun and playful activity designed to suit you Build knowledge with Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardome: an innovative project inspired by one of the greatest geniuses in history

We present an educational resource that allows you to build structures designed by Leonardo da Vinci. Through different geometric patterns –  present in the Codex Atlanticus – we can construct “self-supporting domes”: their components don’t require any fixing elements.

The principle of Leonardome is the ‘reciprocal frame’ of Leonardo. That is to say, the three-dimensional assembly of the components (wooden pieces) which support each other.

With this resource, we will explore concepts relating to geometry, technology, art and history. Will you join us?

"The children really enjoy seeing how the dome grows and, in the end, being able to go inside it."

"The workshop is fantastic in that it allows collaborative work with a large number of students."

"For teachers, it is a very interesting starting point for explaining concepts such as volumes, bi-dimensionality, three-dimensionality, etc. visually."

"To start building the dome, mathematical language must be used: figures, polygons, angles etc."
